HEDP, known as 1-Hydroxy Ethylidene-1,1-Diphosphonic Acid, is an organophosphonic acid scale and corrosion inhibitor.

HEDP is used as scale and corrosion inhibition in circulating cool water system, oil field and low-pressure boilers in fields such as electric power, chemical industry, metallurgy, fertilizer, etc.. In light woven industry,HEDP is used as detergent for metal and nonmetal. In dyeing industry, HEDP is used as peroxide stabilizer and dye-fixing agent; In non-cyanide electroplating, HEDP is used as chelating agent.

1. Scale inhibition performance: HEDP can effectively inhibit the crystallisation and deposition of calcium and magnesium ions in water and prevent the formation of scale. It can form stable complexes with metal ions in water (such as calcium, magnesium, etc.), especially with calcium ions to form a six-circle chelate, which has a significant scale inhibition effect and shows obvious solubility limitation effect.
2. Corrosion inhibition performance: HEDP has good corrosion inhibition performance on steel, copper, aluminium and other metals, it can form a layer of protective film on the metal surface to avoid corrosion and oxidation of metal in water. It can effectively corrosion inhibition of steel, copper, aluminium and other metal materials, reduce the corrosion phenomenon in the water system, prolong the service life of the equipment.
3. High temperature performance: HEDP can still maintain good corrosion and scale inhibition under the condition of up to 250℃, showing its excellent high temperature performance.
4. Chemical stability: HEDP is still very stable under high pH value, not easy to hydrolyse, and not easy to decompose under general light and heat conditions.
5. Acid and alkali resistance: HEDP's acid and alkali resistance, chlorine oxidation resistance is better than other organic phosphonic acid (salt).
6. Broad-spectrum adaptability: HEDP is suitable for acidic, neutral and alkaline water quality, with strong adaptability and wide application.
7. Economy and environmental protection: HEDP's saturated content is high, the amount of use is small, which can reduce the cost of water treatment, and it is a kind of green, environmentally friendly, economic water treatment agent, which will not pollute the water ecosystem.
8. Dispersing performance: HEDP can effectively disperse suspended solids and sludge in the water, preventing their deposition and clogging equipment.
